We actively work to align our design system and HTML markup with standard accessibility requirements. The core rules governing our accessibility policy include:
- WCAG 2.1 Level AA compliance: Making web content accessible to a wider range of people with disabilities, including accommodations for blindness and low vision, deafness and hearing loss, limited movement, speech difficulties, photosensitivity, and combinations of these.
- Guidelines for Indian Government Websites (GIGW): Maintaining clean structural semantics, skip-to-content links, explicit contrast control tools, and persistent menu navigation schemas.
Built-in Accessibility Features
This site contains several helper features designed to improve user control and access:
- Contrast Control Toggle: High contrast theme overrides the stylesheet using high-luminosity values (pure white background, solid black text, deep contrast blue buttons) to assist users with visual impairments.
- Text Sizing Controls: Users can scale body text size from Medium (md) to Large (lg) and Extra Large (xl) directly from the GIGW toolbar at the top of every page.
- Skip-to-Content: Pressing the Tab key immediately upon page load triggers the skip link, letting keyboard users bypass the header navigation.
- Keyboard Outline Indicators: Focus indicators (a vibrant orange contrast ring) are never suppressed, guaranteeing clear navigation tracking for keyboard users.
